Job Summary / Purpose

Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction, and operations activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in Substation-related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations.
  • Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.
  • Provides engineering and technical support to Area Substation Supervisors in the group’s day to day performance of diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
  • Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered. Substation relay protection experience preferred.

Experience

  • Engineer I: 0 – 2 years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Engineer II: at least 2 – 4 years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Engineer III: at least 4 – 6 years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Sr Engineer: at least 6 years of applicable engineering experience.

Skills & Abilities

Technical mastery of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions. Mentors other engineers and technical professionals. Good leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Excellent math and project management skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities, work well under pressure, and work safely following all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Recognizes hazards and enacts mitigation. Demonstrates acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base. Recognizes opportunities for process improvement and enacts change.

Safety

This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
