Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager – £580 to £600 outside IR35 – London (3 days per week)

Experienced Engineering Manager into a established team. This role is suited to a hands‑on leader with a strong background in Java/JVM environments, driving the delivery of scalable microservices. You’ll champion automation and DevOps practices, working across CI/CD pipelines, testing, and cloud‑native platforms to deliver high‑quality software at scale.

Key Requirements

• Strong commercial experience in Java/JVM environments, with the ability to lead and mentor engineers
• Experience designing and delivering microservices-based architectures
• Advocate of DevOps practices (“you build it, you run it”)
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, including build, test, and deployment automation
• Familiarity with modern engineering practices: automated testing, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and observability

Tech Stack

• Backend development using Java across frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, or Micronaut
• Frontend exposure across React, Next.js, Angular, or TypeScript
• Cloud-native environments on Azure, with Kubernetes for orchestration
• Observability tooling such as Dynatrace (or similar)
• Data storage across SQL Server and MongoDB
• Caching and in-memory technologies such as Redis or Ignite
