Job Description:

Job Title: Skills Development Officer; Contract: Permanent; Location: Hereford; Hours: 37; Salary band: HC9 £40,777 – £45,091 per annum; Closing date: 18th June 2026; Interview: Week commencing 29th June 2026.

The Role

This key position within the Economy and Regeneration Service is instrumental in ensuring that the skills of the workforce match local business needs and future economic demands. The role bridges skills gaps and drives positive change through collaboration with employers, skills providers and key stakeholders.

What will you be doing?

  • Lead on and facilitate engagement with priority sectors such as cyber, advanced manufacturing, construction, agri‑tech, high growth and green growth.
  • Support sector‑focused forums, liaise with business leaders and promote workforce planning initiatives.
  • Develop and commission local skills and training programmes that meet identified skills gaps and employer needs, enabling recruitment and growth.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Herefordshire Employment and Skills Strategy, guiding skills provision and ensuring strategic alignment of funded programmes.
  • Work closely with the Inward Investment Manager to incorporate skills support into Herefordshire’s Inward Investment offer, offering bespoke workforce support packages to new investors.
