Job Description:

Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Deputy Head of Building Control for our client a government organisation in Barnet, London.This role is a permanent contract. The working arrangement will be hybrid working.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage a team of Building Control professionals, providing supervision, technical guidance and support to ensure a high-quality service.
  • Oversee the assessment of complex building control applications, including high-risk and specialist projects, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and technical standards.
  • Carry out plan assessments, site inspections and technical reviews, making informed decisions on compliance matters and recommending appropriate actions where required.
  • Lead the Building Control service’s relationship with the Building Safety Regulator and other key stakeholders, ensuring regulatory obligations are met.
  • Investigate complaints, dangerous structures, unauthorised works and regulatory breaches, taking enforcement action where necessary.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with residents, contractors, developers, professional consultants and external agencies, delivering excellent customer service.
  • Support service improvement, performance management and business development initiatives, contributing to the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective Building Control service.
  • Deputise for the Head of Building Control when required.

Personal Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering or a related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent, with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Building Inspector registration status relevant to the role (currently Class 3 Specialist) or equivalent validated competency.
  • Significant experience within Building Control, including responsibility for complex developments and high-risk buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, the Building Act, Building Safety legislation and associated technical standards.
  • Proven experience managing and motivating teams, with the ability to prioritise workloads and deliver results to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear technical advice and make sound decisions.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and IT skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as required, including working at height and across varying site conditions.

Working Hours: 36hrs / Monday – FridayPay: £71,713.00per annumPleasenotethisroleiswithinthescopeofIR35.
