Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Define IT architecture by analyzing business requirements, identifying technical solutions, and creating comprehensive IT architecture blueprints.
  • Document the overall structure, components, and interactions of the IT system to align with organisational strategy.
  • Design and develop IT systems, translating architecture blueprints into tangible solutions, including software applications, network infrastructure, and data management systems.
  • Oversee system performance, monitoring for bottlenecks and implementing corrective measures to maintain scalability and stability.
  • Enhance security and compliance through the implementation of security protocols, data encryption, access controls, and staying abreast of emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, providing project updates and resolving issues clearly.
  • Continuously research, evaluate, and incorporate new technologies and industry standards into designs and implementations.

Qualifications

  • General: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, ability to architect solutions to complex challenges, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, ability to produce high‑quality technical documentation, and ability to lead and collaborate within high‑performing teams.
  • Experience: At least 5 years designing and delivering complex IT systems, ideally within Defence or high‑assurance environments; proven experience owning solution architecture and delivering outcomes across the full systems engineering lifecycle; experience working with UK MOD customers such as DE&S or Defence Digital.
  • Technical: Deep expertise across software development, network infrastructure, data management, virtualization, and cloud computing.
  • Frameworks & Tools: Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or UAF, modelling languages such as UML and SysML, and modelling tools such as Sparx EA.
  • Security & Compliance: Strong understanding of security principles in Defence IT systems, including Secure by Design, and familiarity with relevant standards such as JSP 440, JSP 604, ISO 27001, and NIST.
