Firmware Engineer
Location: Greenford (Hybrid – 3 days in the office)
Reports to: Software Engineering Lead
The Firmware Engineer role takes on the challenge of delivering robust embedded software for existing and future Brompton Electric products and will give you the opportunity to be involved in the full product lifecycle of our electric bikes, from prototype development to production and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, test and maintain embedded software for Brompton Electric products
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define, design and ship new features
- Write clean, scalable and efficient code
- Debug and resolve technical issues
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge with team members as part of our agile software development process
Who you are
- Engineer with proven experience in developing embedded software applications
- Demonstrated experience across majority of the stages of the software development lifecycle (requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing)
- Proficient in C and C++
- Experience with one or more embedded communication protocols: BLE, CAN, I2C, UART, SPI
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Preferred experience with functional safety development (ISO 13849 or ISO 26262)
- Preferred experience with electric motors/inverter drives
- Preferred experience with RTOS-based application development
- Optional experience with Python for developing tools
- Optional experience with security for embedded applications
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/Docker)
- Comfortable with version control systems (e.g. Git)
- Awareness of Health and Safety law and best practice
- Right to work in the UK
