About The Role
Are you looking for a role with influence in the business? Ready to use your technical expertise to provide guidance on a whole range of assurance activities? If you can also bring a questioning attitude and an inquisitive mind, our Nuclear Safety Engineer position might be the role for you! Within the INA Assessment Branch we have a team of Nuclear Safety Engineers covering the whole cycle of Nuclear Operations, from life extensions to defueling. We cover the breadth of technical disciplines and are looking for skills and experience in Structural Integrity and Graphite. You’ll be responsible for the provision of internal regulation on nuclear safety, as well as the undertaking of Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) on proposed plant and safety case changes. You’ll be providing advice across the fleet, so the role will be a hybrid position where you’ll be working from home, the office and travelling to our stations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provision of independent assurance (assessment) that plant modifications have been correctly conceived, justified and implemented
- Contribution towards INA assurance that plant is operated and maintained in accordance with the Safety Case
- Representing INA at technical meetings both internally and with the ONR
- Conducting and reporting of surveillance and other activities in accordance with the Model of Internal Regulation
- Contributing to the reporting of internal regulation activities to all levels in the organisation
- Developing and implementing oversight arrangements for specific projects.
Who You Are
Ideally you are educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering or science based discipline and have demonstrable experience in the nuclear safety related areas of either Structural Integrity or nuclear graphite. Practical experience in the application of safety case arrangements for higher category safety cases, such as author, verifier or case officer would be desirable. An appreciation of regulatory processes and practices, thorough knowledge of nuclear power plant theory, systems components and operation to assess compliance with the nuclear safety case, nuclear site licence and other legislation would be advantageous. Problem‑solving, decision‑making, negotiation and influencing skills will be crucial in this role, enabling you to provide a meaningful challenge to the company. To be appointed you will need to meet the criteria for security vetting, which ordinarily requires you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
Pay, Benefits and Culture
The starting salary is between £64,261 and £99,929, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. Salary will depend on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability‑Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.
