SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR Developed Vetting (DV).

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Infrequent UK travel.

LOCATION: Portsmouth or Stevenage (60% of your working week must be office based).

Candidate Profile

Are you an experienced or early‑career engineer looking to start or expand your career? Do you want to understand how Radiation and Nuclear Hardening activities impact the whole spacecraft system? Are you interested in working alongside engineers who have 30+ years of experience, to interrogate data and create spacecraft simulations? If so, this role could be right for you.

Background Requirements

One of the following:

  • Astrophysics or Electrical / Electronics Engineering with a genuine interest in space
  • Radiation and Nuclear Hardening

In addition, we value:

  • Someone who brings ideas to the table and can raise questions or spot red flags
  • Interest in advanced spacecraft projects such as rovers and satellites for telecoms, military/MOD and scientific clients (deforestation, pollution, ice‑cap monitoring)
  • Someone who builds positive working relationships, contributes to a respectful collaborative team environment, and is comfortable providing and receiving feedback

Responsibilities

How you will contribute to the team:

  • Learn about radiation and nuclear hardening through self‑directed learning, shadowing, and the team’s expertise
  • Produce and review documentation – project drawings, performance analysis, bid proposals, radiation analysis, cost estimates, and schedules
  • Maintain technical liaison with suppliers and customer representatives
  • Generate component test specifications and manage radiation testing of components, project‑specific environment specifications
  • Analyse results and determine whether they are correct or require revision
  • Prioritise tasks based on information and project needs, rather than seniority or loudness
