Job Overview
Nuclear Security Officer (4 on 4 off Shift Pattern) – 12‑hour shifts (Day & Night, 2D & 2N) including public bank holidays and weekends. Average hours 42 per week. Current hourly wage £14.86 – £15.00, annual £31,536 – £32,848.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Protect customers’ property, people and assets in accordance with Assignment Instructions.
- Respond to emergency situations and deliver the service level agreement.
- Manage access and exit points, including vehicle searches and pass verification.
- Oversee safe custody of contraband and prohibited items.
- Conduct thorough internal and external patrols using vehicles and patrol systems.
- Accurately complete incident reports and daily occurrence logs.
- Maintain awareness and compliance with all relevant policies, UK law and guidance.
- Collaborate with Civil Nuclear Constabulary and Cumbria Constabulary to uphold site safety.
- Review and suggest improvements to Assignment Instructions.
- Ensure compliance with industry and statutory legislation (SIA, ONR, NDA).
- Follow instructions and procedures diligently.
- Maintain vigilance and report incidents via radio or telephone.
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including prolonged standing, walking, bending and direct interaction with visitors.
- Operate in trace active areas when required.
Training, Security and Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Complete all required training, competency assessments and upskilling.
- Use technology to achieve objectives and expand job knowledge.
- Remain vigilant for health and safety hazards and report immediately.
- Use sound judgment, involve others if situation appears threatening.
- Maintain professional conduct with customers.
- Record detailed and accurate notes for incident reporting.
- Adhere to schedules, check calls and contact emergency services as outlined.
Qualifications
- Previous security experience (desirable).
- SIA licence (desirable, will be provided).
- Customer service experience (beneficial).
- Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential.
- SC clearance desirable but must be obtained.
