Permanent, Full Time

£32,852 to £38,649 per annum

Location: Danbury

Working Style: Operational field‑based worker

About the role

The Park Manager is responsible for the overall operational management of Danbury Country Park, Cudmore Grove Country Park and Marsh Farm Country Park. The role involves developing robust business and park management plans, identifying new revenue streams, using data to inform decisions, and translating these into day‑to‑day operational plans.

  • Ensure the parks are safe and clean for visitors, promoting and monitoring legislation, byelaws and health and safety, while considering climate change impacts and biodiversity conservation.
  • Develop and deliver proactive maintenance and health and safety plans, manage equipment and assets, and provide insight into maintenance status.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operations within budgeted guidelines and quality standards, maintain financial control, ensure compliance with financial processes, and contribute to grant applications.
  • Implement consistent processes, controls, and operating practices to achieve the best customer experience and effective use of people and resources.
  • Provide guidance to Rangers and site staff, covering recruitment, induction, training, work planning, performance evaluation, conduct, and disciplinary matters.
  • Lead change initiatives, embed the desired culture, motivate staff, and clarify vision, expectations, standards and objectives.
  • Manage third‑party relationships, tenancies, and liaise with partners, other councils, community groups, volunteers, contractors and landlords.

Qualifications

  • Excellent leader with strong communication and people management skills, confident in engaging with the public of all ages and abilities.
  • Good understanding of ecological/habitat management, conservation issues and the Country Park ethos.
  • Degree level education in land management, countryside management or equivalent, with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Excellent attention to detail, initiative and problem‑solving ability.
  • Evidence of income generation within a Country Park or equivalent.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and highly motivated, with a commitment to teamwork and developing a committed, motivated team.

Essential Conditions of Work: The role requires mobility throughout the operational area; the post holder must possess a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or meet the mobility requirements through other means.
