Cardiology Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cardiology Specialist Nursing Team. We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified nurse to support our Cardiology Department providing expert nursing care. This will involve running clinics at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle and at the West Cumberland Hospital Whitehaven seeing Cardiology patients with a wide range of conditions including Heart Failure, Rapid Access chest pain clinics and Ischaemic Heart Disease clinics. An in reach service is also provided assessing Heart Failure patients on the wards and also advising and guiding the Medical and Nursing team on the treatment required.

Main duties of the job

Covering a wide range of clinics including Heart Failure, Rapid Access chest pain and Ischaemic Heart Disease clinics at both the Cumberland Infirmary and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven. Also providing an in reach service to the wards reviewing the patients and providing advice and guidance to the team.

The candidate will need to have substantial post registration experience within Cardiology possessing an in-depth knowledge of Cardiac conditions particularly Heart Failure and chest pain management. They will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience in counselling skills. They will participate in data collection for any National or Local audits, attend regular MDT meetings and Cardiology meetings.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • First level registered nurse
  • NST 307 or equivalent
  • Further relevant development to postgraduate certificate or equivalent.
  • Specialist Heart Failure course or willing to undertake
  • Northumbria Advanced Clinical Assessment for Nurses (NACAN) or equivalent, or willing to undertake
  • ENB 124 / 931 or equivalent.
  • Further relevant development to postgraduate diploma
  • Extended skills eg IV additives/infusions, cannulation

Knowledge and Experience

  • Continuing professional development with portfolio.
  • Cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology
  • Drug therapies used in heart failure
  • NMC code of professional conduct
  • Equality issues.
  • Substantial post-registration experience within Cardiology.
  • Experience of audit and evaluation.
  • Leadership.
  • Counselling skills.
