Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a BANK Primary Care Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Whatton, a Category C male adult prison in Nottinghamshire. The role will be based within the healthcare department, with occasional prison wing duties.

Bank hours

  • Weekdays – 7.30 am to 6.30 pm
  • Weekend – 8.30 am to 6.30 pm

Hourly rate

  • Weekdays – £23.83
  • Weekends – £25.68
  • Bank Holidays – £30.82

Responsibilities

  • Work within a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver a nurse‑led service and prevent hospital admissions.
  • Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and conduct reception screening.
  • Deliver nurse‑led clinics to your patient group with support from the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide evidence‑based care and seek patient feedback to personalise care.
  • Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference.
  • Build strong links with partners and stakeholders to promote best practice, clinical supervision, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Share knowledge and skills to ensure safe care and build strong multi‑disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse – Adult, NMC.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
  • A non‑judgemental and compassionate approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Experience

Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment is desirable but not essential.
