Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine with Special Interest in PHEM

About the role
We are looking for an Emergency Medicine Specialty Doctor with a specialist interest in Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine to join our team of SAS doctors in North Cumbria. This role includes dedicated time each week for PHEM training and offers support to attain individual career goals while providing high‑quality emergency care to our semi‑rural population.
Main duties
- Work alongside the Great North Air Ambulance Service, covering helicopter and car shifts of 12 hours both day and night.
- Take part in Pre Hospital clinical governance, audit and research projects, training and educational courses as an attendee and as a faculty helper.
- Participate in a 24‑hour Senior Decision Maker rota alongside Emergency Medicine Higher Specialist Trainees and RCEM Credentialed Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
- Work under the supervision of duty Consultants present on both sites between 0800‑0000 and on‑call thereafter.
- Assist in clinical and educational supervision, appraisal, research investigation and leadership positions within the Trust.
Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice (MBBS or equivalent medical degree).
- Current certification in at least 2 of 3: ALS/ACLS, ATLS/ETC, APLS/EPALS.
- Evidence of progress towards MRCEM.
- Minimum of four years full‑time postgraduate experience, at least two years in Emergency Medicine or allied specialties.
- Minimum of 12 months working in Emergency Medicine with evidence of RCEM Entrustment Level 2b across all clinical RCEM SLOs.
- Minimum of 12 months working for an NHS organisation.
- Minimum of 3 months in Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care Medicine.
- Experience in Paediatrics – general or emergency medicine and POCUS experience.
- Ability to organise and manage own workload efficiently and prioritise clinical need.
- Experience with common emergency medicine management tasks and maintaining accurate records.
- Commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical workforce, motivating multidisciplinary teams, and experience in quality improvement/medical audit.
- Experience in clinical governance.
