We are seeking an experienced technician to join our studio team at CoSTAR National Lab.
This role will be responsible for the setup, calibration and operation of camera, tracking and capture systems within the studio, supporting a wide range of production and R&D activity, including virtual production workflows. The postholder will configure and operate cameras and tracking systems and ensure that they are integrated effectively with real‑time and stage‑based systems.
This is a hands‑on technical role requiring strong attention to detail, problem‑solving ability and the confidence to work within complex, multi‑system environments.

The CoSTAR National Lab for R&D in Creative Technology is the largest ever investment in creative industries R&D in UK history: a £51.1m programme led by Royal Holloway, University of London to develop a National R&D Lab for creative technologies to ensure the UK’s screen and performance industries have innovation infrastructure needed to compete globally. Our consortium brings together world‑leading research teams from media production, psychology, business and drama at Royal Holloway, Creative-AI at University of Surrey; and Creative (Games) Technologies at Abertay University; as well as the professional training at the National Film & Television School. By partnering with Pinewood Studios, BT and Disguise, the CoSTAR National R&D Lab will place R&D at the heart of UK storytelling and storytelling at the heart of R&D.
What you will be doing
- Working with StoryFutures and CoSTAR staff and partners to set up, configure and operate camera systems for studio‑based production and R&D activity.
- Calibrate and maintain camera tracking systems, ensuring accurate alignment between physical and virtual environments.
- Support lens calibration, camera metadata workflows and system alignment.
- Work with the studio team to integrate camera and tracking systems with real‑time environments and the LED volume.
- Carry out routine maintenance and system checks across camera, tracking and general production equipment.
Expectations
- Enjoy working in a fast‑moving, agile environment, both independently and as part of a team.
- Have significant experience of working with a variety of the cameras and camera systems used in film, television and virtual production.
- Have solid understanding and strong technical knowledge of camera tracking, motion capture systems and integration with virtual production workflows.
