Quality Scientist

Azenta is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Scientist to join our dynamic team in Wotton, Surrey. This permanent, onsite role is suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and has strong problem‑solving capabilities, including proficiency in tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams. As a Quality Scientist you will play a vital role in ensuring that all products meet our stringent quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage customer‑raised product quality issues, identify root causes, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues efficiently, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Lead and facilitate problem‑solving sessions using 8D methodology, 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, FMEA, and SPC.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams (Production, Engineering, Supply Chain) to enhance product quality and optimize processes.
  • Monitor and update the Quality Dashboard, tracking KPIs including Defects Per Unit.
  • Lead quality‑control practices and Lean methodologies.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities effectively.
  • Support the introduction of new products by ensuring build robustness and reliability.
  • Review and approve engineering changes to maintain consistent product quality.

Qualifications

  • Scientific or Engineering degree preferred.
  • Experience in pharma, biotech, or medical devices.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong background in Lean principles, with a focus on process optimization and waste reduction.
  • ISO13485 / ISO9001 certification required.
  • Advanced experience with the 8D methodology.
  • Knowledge of plastics/injection molding or the life‑sciences industry would be highly advantageous.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools including Excel, Pivot Tables, and Pareto Charts.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and data presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, dynamic team environment.
  • Experience with root‑cause analysis tools like 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams.

Working Conditions

This position is fully on‑site in Wotton, Surrey. Some international travel may be required.
