Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Position: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract – 12 months). Rate: £55 per hour inside IR35. Location: Derby (5x per week).

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work on some of the UK’s most technically challenging and high‑impact engineering programmes across the nuclear and defence sectors. The role offers the chance to join a world‑class engineering environment, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovation across design processes.

Responsibilities

• Produce high‑quality mechanical designs to customer specifications.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
• Support product development and design improvement initiatives.
• Develop innovative engineering solutions to complex technical challenges.
• Modify and refine designs in line with project and customer requirements.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant safety and engineering standards.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing and engineering teams.
• Support and mentor junior engineers within the team.
• Present technical designs and solutions to customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

• Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in a highly regulated environment such as defence, nuclear, aerospace, or similar.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture principles.
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX or equivalent.
• Familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter or similar.
• Strong knowledge of engineering standards and safety legislation.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Engineering qualification in a relevant discipline.

Additional Information

This role requires UK Security Clearance.
