Overview
University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a full‑time, 12‑month, tenure‑track faculty position in the Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program. The role reports to the Program Director and supports the program’s mission and compliance with ARC‑PA accreditation.
Responsibilities
- Teaching
- Teach assigned didactic and/or clinical courses.
- Develop and revise course content, including syllabi, lecture materials, and examination questions.
- Participate in continuous evaluation of course delivery and student learning outcomes.
- Supervise and assess student performance in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
- Provide student advising, mentorship, and academic remediation.
- Maintain competency‑based assessments aligned with program goals.
- Peer review faculty teaching and provide constructive feedback.
- Conduct site visits for students on clinical rotations.
- Grade assignments, exams, and other assessments in a timely manner.
- Service
- Serve on the PA Program Admissions Committee.
- Participate in departmental, school, and university‑level committee work.
- Engage in community outreach and service initiatives.
- Assist in coordination and documentation of programmatic self‑assessments.
- Contribute to development, evaluation, and revision of program mission and learning outcomes.
- Collaborate on interprofessional education initiatives.
- Scholarship/Research
- Engage in scholarly activities, research, grant writing, quality improvement, curriculum innovation, or educational scholarship.
- Present work at conferences.
- Publish in peer‑reviewed journals or other academic outlets.
- Maintain professional licensure and national certification.
- Support student research initiatives and mentor scholarly projects.
- Other
- Participate in accreditation and compliance activities.
- Perform duties assigned by the Program Director.
- Assist in reviewing and updating the Student Handbook.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an ARC‑PA accredited program.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience.
- Current license or eligibility for licensing as a PA in Maryland.
- Alternatively, board‑certified Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy with full unrestricted MD license, or non‑clinician scientist or health professional with a doctoral degree in a health or science related field.
Preferred
- Physician Assistant candidates.
- At least 1 year of teaching experience in higher education.
- At least 2 years of clinical experience.
- Past clinical instruction experience within a PA program.
- Demonstrated history of scholarship and grant submission.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Ability to comply with accreditation standards.
Physical Demands
- Extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, and sitting at a desk.
- Ability to lift.
- Requires communication with diverse constituencies.
- Requires operation of typical office equipment.
Salary
$118,000 – $134,000 (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
