Supervising Solicitor – Children Law
Salary: £50‑75k + Bonus + Progression

A highly regarded and progressive law firm with a strong reputation in family and publicly funded work is seeking a Supervising Solicitor to join its Children Department in a senior capacity.
This is a key leadership role within a supportive and forward‑thinking team, offering the opportunity to combine high‑quality casework with supervision, mentoring and strategic input into the department’s ongoing growth.
The Role
You will manage a complex caseload of children matters while playing a pivotal role in supervising and developing junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a varied caseload of children law matters, including private children cases and domestic abuse
- Providing strategic oversight and guidance on complex cases
- Representing clients at hearings and undertaking advocacy where appropriate
- Attending client meetings, conferences and court hearings, advising on case strategy
- Drafting and overseeing key legal documents (C100s, C1As, witness statements, etc.)
- Supervising preparation of court bundles and liaising with counsel
- Overseeing Legal Aid applications, amendments and billing via CCMS
- Ensuring compliance with file management, billing and regulatory requirements
- Conducting legal research to support case progression
- Delivering high standards of client care, particularly for vulnerable clients
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervising solicitors, trainees and paralegals in line with Legal Aid requirements
- Supporting development of advocacy, case management and client care skills
- Delegating work effectively and monitoring quality
- Conducting file reviews and providing structured feedback
- Supporting training, mentoring and internal development initiatives
- Contributing to best practice, processes and departmental improvements
- Promoting a collaborative and inclusive team culture
About You
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales
- Significant experience in Children Law, including private children and domestic abuse matters
- Strong background in Legal Aid work and CCMS
- Meets (or is working towards) Legal Aid supervisory requirements
- Proven experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
- Strong advocacy, organisational and case management skills
- Confident handling complex and sensitive matters
