SEN Teacher – New Specialist SEMH School
A new specialist SEMH school opening in the Andover area is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teacher to join its founding team. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape a nurturing and ambitious learning environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The successful candidate will teach pupils aged 4–16, primarily within the primary phase, in small classes with high levels of support. Pupils may also present with additional learning needs and be working below age-related expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver differentiated lessons to meet individual needs
Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
Support pupils with SEMH needs using positive behaviour strategies
Adapt teaching for pupils working below age-related expectations
Build strong relationships that encourage engagement and progress
Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and external professionals
Monitor pupil progress academically, socially, and emotionally

Person Specification
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience in primary, SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision settings
Strong inclusive and adaptive teaching skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils displaying challenging behaviour
Calm, resilient, and flexible approach
Desirable
Experience in SEMH or specialist settings
Knowledge of trauma-informed or restorative practice
Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs and/or autism
