Principal Process Consultant

KBR seeks a Principal Process Consultant with experience in Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) to lead technically robust consulting assignments across the CCUS project lifecycle and support business development activities aligned with the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical authority on CCUS‑related studies and projects, including capture technologies, CO₂ compression and conditioning/purification, transport (pipeline and shipping), and storage concepts.
  • Lead or provide senior technical oversight for:
    • Feasibility, concept and Pre‑FEED studies.
    • Technical and economic evaluations.
    • Technology assessment and selection.
    • CO₂ value chain integration.
  • Develop and review high‑quality technical deliverables including reports, presentations, models, and decision support materials.
  • Apply engineering judgement and experience to identify risks, opportunities and cost or performance drivers.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, communicating effectively at both technical and executive levels.
  • Translate complex engineering topics into clear, decision‑ready business insights.
  • Support client discussions on decarbonisation strategies, CCUS deployment pathways and investment readiness.
  • Support KBR Consulting’s CCUS and energy transition growth strategy through:
    • Proposal preparation.
    • Technical inputs to bids and presentations.
    • Client meetings and technical workshops.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, market positioning and internal capability development within CCUS and broader energy transition services.
  • Mentor and guide less‑experienced engineers and consultants.
  • Contribute to the development of internal methodologies, tools and best practices.
  • Collaborate across KBR’s wider global organisation, integrating multi‑discipline expertise where appropriate.
  • Prepare and deliver conference papers at international events.
  • Support the growth of the business.

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Depth of experience in several service areas including carbon capture & sequestration market knowledge, industrial competitiveness, facility operations, process design and modelling, feasibility studies, CCUS technical safety, vendor knowledge, process operations and improvements, project execution strategies and direct sales.
  • Client relationships in the EMEA region.

Essential Skills

  • Degree (BEng / MEng or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in engineering consultancy, project development or operating company roles.
  • Demonstrable experience in carbon capture and/or CO₂ infrastructure projects, including post‑combustion, pre‑combustion or oxy‑fuel capture; CO₂ compression, liquefaction and transport systems; CO₂ purification/conditioning systems; and storage site concepts, injection facilities or CO₂ networks.
  • Strong experience supporting feasibility, concept and Pre‑FEED studies.
  • Experience in energy transition projects beyond CCUS (e.g. hydrogen, low‑carbon fuels).
  • Prior involvement in technical due diligence or lender’s engineer roles.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments and deliver high‑quality outputs to tight schedules.
  • Travel on short notice and overnight stay up to approximately 30% of the time.
  • Existing client relationships in respective areas of expertise.

Other Functions

  • Based in Leatherhead.
  • Primary degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of process simulation (e.g. Hysys, Unisim, Promax) is a plus.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Positive and flexible attitude.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, good cultural awareness.
  • Diplomatic in meeting and working with people (internally and externally).
  • Flexible and willing to work extra hours as necessary to accommodate occasional workload peaks.
  • Work experience with an industry company, licensor or technical consultancy is a major plus.
  • Fluent English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Must travel within EMEA region on short trips including overnight stay up to approximately 30% of the time.
