Job Introduction
Community Occupational Therapist. Permanent, full-time 37 hours, based in the North Team, located in either Alnwick or Berwick (office base to be agreed at interview).
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist, newly qualified or experienced, who wants to start or progress their career in a highly rewarding area of work where they can make a real difference to the lives of residents/clients. Someone keen to develop their Occupational Therapy skills through involvement with adult residents experiencing a wide‑range of health and social care needs.
We have one permanent, full-time vacancy available in the North area. The position is NCC Salary Band 7 (£35,412 – £39,152). This role is equivalent to NHS Band 6.

- We are building working links with the local Primary Care Networks to improve service to residents. We have close working links with all the residential care homes within Northumberland through a programme of regular reviews.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess residents’ functional needs and recommend appropriate equipment and adaptations.
- Provide basic and complex equipment, minor and major adaptations, and manual handling assessments and recommendations.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
- Support residents to maximise independence and participation in daily activities.
- Engage with local Primary Care Networks and residential care homes through regular reviews.
Qualifications
- Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Current registration with HCPC.

Employment Support
Northumberland County Council is committed to supporting Occupational Therapists to develop confidence and capability within adult social care practice. Newly appointed Occupational Therapists will complete a structured Occupational Therapy Preceptorship Programme, lasting up to 12 months depending on individual experience. The programme provides supported development, regular supervision and learning opportunities to help you embed your practice, understand local authority systems and legislation, and progress towards confident, autonomous practice.
