Healthcare Support Worker – Sexual Health

Band 3 – 15 hours per week (flexible). Closing date 27 May 2026.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist and consultant in managing a highly complex clinical caseload.
  • Accompany patients where clinical support is required.
  • Chaperone patients as required.
  • Take, record and monitor patient observations – blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturations, temperature, respirations; calculate and record NEWS 2 and escalated to registered staff as indicated.
  • Blood glucose monitoring.
  • Undertake asymptomatic sexual health screening directed by the CNS.
  • Work within the phlebotomy service when required.
  • Respond to patient requests for non‑clinical information.
  • Cover reception duties and book appointments where appropriate.
  • Assist in transferring patients using correct manual handling techniques.
  • Attend to activities of daily living needs of patients (mobility, etc.).
  • Report immediately to the nurse in charge of any observed change in a patient’s condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment.
  • Answer telephone calls, bleeps and take messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform clerical duties – reception/telephone duties, stock control, preparing notes (electronic and manual), assist preparation of medical and nursing notes for clinics.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Previous experience in a caring environment.
  • Experience working within outpatients.
  • Previous administration experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Direct Care or equivalent.
  • Key Skills literacy/numeracy or equivalent.
  • Venepuncture certificate.
  • Care certificate.
  • NVQ Assessor qualification.

Other Job Requirements

  • Ability to undertake manual handling and movement tasks.
  • Ability to travel countywide/cross-sites.
