Senior Assistant Technical Officer Pharmacy

The post holder will be responsible for the general day to day operational functions of Pharmacy Stores, including providing a high quality and efficient pharmacy distribution and goods in service. The post holder will support the smooth running of the Pharmacy stores for staff and other Trust employees.

The post holder will co-ordinate in the following areas, ensuring tasks are completed and documented in the allotted timeframes:

Topping up and receipt/supply of ward orders

Ward and Pharmacy deliveries

Goods in

Emergency Boxes

Main duties of the job

To carry out Senior ATO stores duties, assisting the Senior Technician within the area by –

Assisting in the co-ordination of the pharmacy support staff by ensuring all orders have been received and completed for that day (email, top up and ward order day schedule) and ensure all work is completed daily. Utilising the use of the PTS, ensuring data is up to date and accurate.

Assist in the co-ordination of the delivery service for the wards and Pharmacy departments, ensuring all deliveries have been undertaken as per the daily schedule.

Assist in the co-ordination of the goods in team, including receipt of goods, processing of documentation and ensuring stock is put away and all work is completed daily

Assist in the co-ordination of the processing of waste/ returns from clinical areas, reviewing wards waste/ returns

Assist in the co-ordination of the Emergency box supply and replenishment, ensuring the minimum stock holding for completed boxes is available at all times

To escalated operational issues such as staffing levels or delays in completing planned workload to Senior Technician

To participate in the training of other support staff and trainees, which will include providing training on Top-up, Eylea/Lucentis reconciliation assembly of stock items, receipt, returns, PTS and any other stores roles.

Person Specification

Education, Training and Qualifications

  • GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in Maths and English or proven equivalent level of experience and knowledge within the same or similar role.
  • GPhC approved Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services or willingness to work towards.

Experience and Knowledge

  • To be able to demonstrate proven experience of working in a customer facing role, ideally within an NHS setting.
  • To be able to demonstrate proven good literacy/numeracy skills, ability to use automated/electronic systems
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Previous experience of working in a Hospital Pharmacy stores department

Skills and Ability

  • Demonstrates a problem solving approach, i.e, discrepancies in stock levels, incomplete orders.
  • To be able to demonstrate team working skills
  • To be able to demonstrate the ability to prioritises workload
  • To be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse and troubleshoot orders that are non-specific by the requestor as well as assessing a range of situations where the drug is unavailable
