Mental Health Support Worker – SEMH (Ages 5–16)

Location: Wallsend / Newcastle upon Tyne

Availability: Full-time | Temporary

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Leader Education are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join a specialist SEMH school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This role involves supporting pupils aged 11–16 within a nurturing and structured environment that prioritises modern education and helps young people realise their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a resilient and motivated individual who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

The Role

  • Supporting pupils aged 11‑16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Building positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported
  • Delivering one‑to‑one and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing
  • Supporting pupils to manage behaviour and mental health challenges in a proactive and positive manner
  • Encouraging engagement, independence, confidence, and self‑esteem
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals
  • Contributing to a calm, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the school’s values

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, mental health, or additional needs (desirable but not essential)
  • Is empathetic, patient, and emotionally resilient
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Is committed to promoting respect, honesty, trust, compassion, and integrity
  • Is confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Holds a valid DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one
