KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Castleford Contract: Full time, term time only. Temporary to Permanent Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm Start Date: June Salary: £92 – £95 (Depending on Experience)

We are looking for passionate SEMH/SEND practitioners to join a welcoming primary school as a SEN Teaching Assistant. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support for KS2 pupils with Autism, learning needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them feel supported, engaged, and confident within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for KS2 pupils with Autism, learning needs, and SEMH needs within the classroom
  • Support pupils to build confidence, engagement, and positive relationships with learning
  • Use positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress, wellbeing, and engagement
  • Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and other parts of the school day when needed
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and attend relevant SEN/SEMH training opportunitie

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience supporting primary pupils with SEND, particularly Autism and SEMH needs
  • Calm, patient, and caring approach when supporting children on a 1:1 basis
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Confident using positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies
  • Able to work independently and as part of a supportive school team
  • Professional, reliable, and committed to safeguarding and child welfare at all times
  • Proactive, flexible, and resilient with a passion for supporting children with additional needs
