We are seeking an experienced Medical Secretary/Clinical Coder to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail and a good understanding of medical terminology to contribute to high-quality care and accurate clinical record keeping. The successful candidate will join our small but friendly and professional secretarial team

About us

The Gill Medical Centre is a high performing 10,000 patient practice situated in the heart of Walkden. We are supported by an exceptional team including 12 GPs a pharmacy and prescription team for medication and prescribing support, a highly skilled nursing team who evaluate straight forward pathology results, a dynamic workflow optimisation team with care pathway training who manage all Docman coding and referrals, and our professional and welcoming reception team.

Job responsibilities

  • Typing of referral letters and general correspondence
  • Using e-referral system
  • Keeping referral templates and forms within the clinical system up to date
  • Clinical coding of all medical documentation
  • Review and analyse clinical documentation to accurately code diagnoses, procedures, treatments and results.
  • File clinical correspondence into EMIS Web
  • Annotate documents for clinicians and ensure appropriate actions are taken
  • Accurately workflow documents via Docman to appropriate team members (e.g. GP, Pharmacist, Nurse, Receptionist) based on practice protocols
  • Ensure compliance with coding standards and guidelines
  • Liaise with clinicians and colleagues to clarify information and resolve coding discrepancies
  • Support the practice in meeting key NHS targets like QOF through coding optimisation
  • Assist in audits and compliance activities related to clinical coding
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of coding processes and documentation practices.
  • Undertake general administrative tasks as required
  • Scanning referral letters on to patients records if required
  • Liaising with the hospitals and secondary care about patient appointment and test result queries.
  • Dealing with queries raised by Doctors, Practice Manager, and Patients.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills and understanding of clinical systems.
  • Experience of using EMIS Web/Docman preferred
