Healthcare Support Worker – Midgley Ward

As a full‑time Healthcare Support Worker on our 26‑bedded Midgley Ward, which specialises in Respiratory and Acute Medicine, you will provide high standards of care to our patients while working both independently and as part of a team, prioritising your workload to ensure quality care and demonstrating a caring and compassionate approach.

The ideal candidate will have some care experience, be available to work night shifts, and will be supported with supernumerary time and opportunities for further learning and development.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high standard of individualised nursing care within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, escort patients off the ward for investigations/scans, and assist with personal and nutritional care.
  • Assist with infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
  • Carry out administrative duties such as telephone answering, taking messages, and attending ward/unit meetings.
  • Support risk assessment implementation and communicate with staff, patients, relatives and carers.
  • Recognise and respond to situations within the work area, reporting appropriately to the nurse in charge and seeking advice from senior staff as required.
  • Work flexible hours including days, nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Care Certificate.
  • English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A‑C (9‑4) or Level 2 functional skills.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a care environment or demonstrable caring nature/life experience.
  • Understanding of strict confidentiality and safeguarding (Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse, Mental Health).
  • Basic computer/keyboard skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work.
  • Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records.
  • Capacity to manage stress for self and others.
  • Willingness to undertake new skills and training.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, reliability and punctuality.
  • Healthcare competencies appropriate to the area of work.
