Outpatient Clinic Coordinator GI Surgery

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and motivated individual to join our outpatient clinic coordinator team within the GI Surgery and Physiology department. The department is the specialist centre for the South West of England for a number of conditions and often receives referrals from other hospitals. These could be for conditions such asIBS, hernias, pelvic floor disfunction and acid reflux, amongst other things. The administration team is based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary site and the post holder will not be required to work from other trust locations. This role is Monday – Friday with flexible working opportunities available, such as a hybrid working from home schedule and flexible start times of between 8-9am. Main duties of the job
Working as part of a dynamic team in a busy environment, you will draw on your experience and skills to effectively communicate with patients, clinicians and peers to support the effective management of outpatient clinic appointments.The role will include processing referrals, booking appointments, answering queries from patients and other healthcare professionals, and tracking waiting times. The successful applicant will be forward thinking, highly motivated and patient focussed, with demonstrable organisational skills.You will be confident in your ability to prioritise and manage your time effectively so that you can coordinate multiple tasks without needing continual supervision. Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
- Clerical / administrative experience, including filing and/or reception
- Experience of dealing with the public, both on the telephone and in person
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience of using a Patient Administration System
Skills and Abilities
- Effective and polite manner when dealing with people, both face to face and on the phone
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
- Ability to work on your own, using your own initiative, if required
- Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
- Effective organisational skills
- Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
- Working knowledge of outpatient policies and procedures
Qualifications and Training
- GCSE Grade 9-4 in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2; certificate in Adult Literacy at Level 2)
- A Levels, or equivalent, in any subject
