Our Patient Transport Volunteers play a vital role in supporting SCAS patients who need help travelling to and from their non-emergency but essential medical appointments. These might include dialysis, cancer treatments, or other critical ongoing care. By offering your time, you’ll be providing far more than a lift — you’ll be offering reassurance, kindness, and human connection during what can often be a stressful or vulnerable moment in someone’s life.
Why this role matters
Patient Transport Volunteers are the hidden stars of SCAS. Every journey helps to reduce anxiety, support independence, and ensure that patients can access the care they need. Many of the people we support have limited local support networks, or no other means of getting to their appointments safely. Your contribution could make a profound difference to someone’s day — and often, to their wellbeing.
What we’re looking for
We are grateful for anyone who can offer regular, dependable support. We know that life is busy, so we’re flexible about the days and times you can volunteer. Whether you can spare one day a week or a few hours here and there, we would love to hear from you.
What you’ll need
Access to your own safe, reliable vehicle
A friendly, patient and caring approach
A desire to support people in your local community
Full training and ongoing support are provided, and out of pocket travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Why volunteer with us?
Volunteering with SCAS is not only rewarding for the patients you help — it’s rewarding for you, too. Many of our volunteers tell us that they feel a renewed sense of purpose, connection, and fulfilment through their role. You’ll meet new people, gain experience, learn new skills, and become part of a supportive, friendly volunteer family.
