About the Role
We are seeking a confident, approachable and resourceful person to join the Cellular Pathology service in Chelsea. This is a full‑time post in a high‑profile department working to demanding turnaround times and providing services to the Royal Marsden Clinical teams as well as acting as a reference centre for other hospitals in the UK and offering expert opinions to institutions worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Receipt and checking of samples against request forms
- Assisting Pathologists in the diagnostic sampling of fresh and formalin‑fixed tissue
- Archiving of paraffin blocks and stained slides
- Routine solution rotation on processing and staining machines
- Packaging and collection of specimens transported between sites
- Disposal of specimens; collection of post
- Informing Laboratory Management and Senior Staff of laboratory procedures, risk assessment, COSHH and local safety rules
- Assisting with the storage of confidential files
- Ensuring the department is centred on patient care and the patient pathway
- Being aware of the clinical implications of the service provided through training
- Answering telephone, dealing with messages and enquiries
- Working within the capabilities and responsibility of the post, seeking advice where appropriate
Qualifications
- GCSEs or O levels including a science subject
- Experience working in a relevant laboratory
