Health Care Assistant – HMP Bronzefield

Salary: £26,000 per annum

We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient Health Care Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team at HMP Bronzefield, working full time (35 hours per week) within an integrated healthcare service.
You’ll deliver high‑quality nursing care and psychosocial interventions within a structured prison setting, supporting patients through medical detox, recovery programmes, and complex physical, psychological, and social needs, working closely with registered nurses and the wider clinical team to provide safe, person‑centred care.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care
- Delivering 1:1 interventions aligned to individual recovery and treatment plans
- Assisting with medical detox, observations, and medication support (including controlled drug checks)
- Monitoring, recording, and reporting on physical and mental health changes
- Supporting 12‑Step recovery work and health promotion activities
- Carrying out brief crisis interventions when required
- Participating in community and code of conduct meetings
- Maintaining accurate electronic clinical records and supporting KPI delivery
What we’re looking for

- Confidence working in secure environments with clear boundaries and procedures
- Accurate record keeping and IT competence
- Understanding of substance misuse, recovery models, and their wider impact (desirable)
- Experience in health, social care, residential, or clinical settings (desirable)

You’ll work within strict clinical governance frameworks, adhering to the NMC Code, safeguarding procedures, infection control standards, and prison security requirements. You will manage competing priorities, contribute to risk assessments, and support safe, effective treatment journeys from admission through to recovery.
All prison‑based roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting. These checks can take up to 5 months to complete. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of both checks.
