Responsibilities
- Work as part of outpatient team delivering high standard direct patient care using your skills and knowledge.
- Undertake specialist clinical procedures where trained; supervise less experienced staff.
- Lead training & induction of all HCA staff in collaboration with Practice Educator & department Manager.
- Ensure familiarity with Trust and department protocols and policies.
- Collaborate with other disciplines, provide courteous, reliable & quality service to patients, relatives & carers, healthcare professionals, internal departments & external organisations.
- Maintain necessary information for clinics to operate effectively and record clinical activity via hospital system.
- Manage flow of patients, maintaining health and safety including cleanliness, information governance & fire safety.
- Prioritise own clinical workload & coordinate junior HCAs under direct supervision.
- Utilise advanced communication skills to greet patients, perform diagnostic tests (urine testing, blood pressure, spirometry, BMI).
- Check patient notes & ensure results available prior to appointments.
- Keep patients informed throughout, provide explanation, advice, support; escalated complex queries to senior staff.
- Monitor patient wellbeing, report any changes.
- Arrange interpreters and transport for patients.
- Ensure equipment is working & patient safety maintained; knowledge of incident reporting & emergency procedures.
- Chaperone patients undergoing intimate examinations when requested.
- Maintain consulting rooms (equipment & documentation), notice boards.
- Maintain smooth running of clinics without direct supervision; support qualified nurses in organisation and running of clinics.
- Know limitations, seek advice when necessary.
- Maintain high standards of record keeping; accurate & legible entries.
- Act as role model, implement good practice & evidence-based practice.
- Assess & support junior staff, delegate tasks appropriately.
- Use initiative to manage own workload; ability to manage flow of clinics independently.

For this role you must have previous NHS or NHS primary care experience with a Care Certificate from an Ofqual regulated awarding organisation, OR be an internationally educated nurse/midwife/doctor with recent acute hospital experience and a verified ENIC report.
