Weekday shift in Recovery at APH, 08:00‑20:00.
Desirable: Theatre / recovery experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in meeting hygiene, toilet and protection needs using own initiative under the guidance of a team leader.
- Assist patients to promote independence.
- Use hoist to lift heavy patients to transfer from bed to chair or wheelchair.
- Assist patients onto commode.
- Access patient condition, record basic observations of temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration rate.
- Use judgement to inform senior staff of abnormal findings.
- Assist in the care of dying patients, including providing support to relatives.
- Provide support for relatives.
- Assist with last offices.
- Assist with patient transfer to CT scanner, MRI and theatre.
- Assist with patient transfer during intra‑ and inter‑discharges from the hospital.
- Prepare equipment in emergencies.
- Maintain effective communication with patients and staff.
- Communicate effectively with agitated and confused patients, including those with physical and mental disabilities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in the clinical setting.
- Prime pressure monitoring sets for arterial and central line insertion.
- Prepare non‑invasive and invasive oxygen delivery systems.
- Prepare and clean bronchoscopes as per hospital policy when other service personnel are not available (e.g., weekends and annual leave).
- Assemble and dismantle mechanical ventilators and clean them as per manufacturer instruction.
- Perform safety ventilator tests prior to use.
