Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialist Community Neurology Service for a 12-month maternity leave cover position for a Senior Occupational Therapist.
Our team supports people living with neurological conditions across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). We provide care in a variety of settings, including patients’ homes, clinics, and through digital assessments, allowing us to deliver flexible, person-centred support.
We are a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team made up of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, MS Nurses, Therapy Assistants and an excellent Admin team, working closely alongside our Adult Speech and Language Therapy colleagues. The role offers the opportunity to work both autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, making a meaningful difference to people’s lives every day.
Main duties of the job
- To manage a caseload of neurological patients. To assess and subsequently provide evidence based treatment plans.
- To be able to assess a variety of neurological conditions and presentations. To be able to assess for specialist equipment including bespoke seating and in bed sleep systems.
- To have an understanding of the wider neurological pathway and system partners, when and who to refer onto and the best time for this to occur.
- To provide supervision to students, peers and more junior members of the team as required.
- To undertake relevant service development opportunities as they occur, including delivering relevant educational sessions, audits and research.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required
- Previous experience working with patients with neurological conditions
- Effective communication skills – written, verbal and nonverbal
- Wide range of experience in fields relevant to community rehabilitation
- Experience in dealing with complex medical & social needs
- Working with a wide range of professionals in Health and Social Services.
- Application of health, safety and risk management policies
- Able to work autonomously, plan & organise own workload, effective time management
- Able to use techniques to evaluate service provision e.g. outcome measures, audit.
- Working in multi professional team at a Senior OT level
- Specific experience in neuro-rehabilitation
- Conducting appraisal interviews and identifying development needs
- Supervisory & appraisal skills supervision of less experienced OT, support staff or students.
Qualifications and Training Required
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to lifelong learning
- To be able to travel between a variety of locations within the Trust. A motorised vehicle is required.
- Postural management training or qualification
- Upper limb rehabilitation training or qualification
- Cognitive rehabilitation training or qualification
