Are you passionate about supporting young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing? A specialist SEN school in Newham is currently recruiting a full‑time Mental Health Worker to support children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs within a nurturing and structured school environment. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships, support behaviour in a calm and consistent way, and help students feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.
Responsibilities
- Supporting students with SEMH needs both emotionally and academically
- Helping young people regulate emotions and engage positively within the classroom
- Managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
- Building trusting relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or barriers to learning
- Working closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external professionals
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or mental health needs
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to thrive
- Previous school‑based experience is desirable but not essential
Candidate Backgrounds
This role would suit candidates from backgrounds such as youth work, support work, care, psychology, mental health support, sports coaching, or SEN support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available later.
