Summary
Provide specialised, comprehensive and confidential patient-centred clinical administration and secretarial services to consultants and their teams in accordance with departmental, trust and national standards, policies and procedures. Act as a source of advice and guidance regarding the haemophilia and haematology specialism.

Key Responsibilities
- Apply trust policies, hospital practices and procedures relevant to the medical secretary role, requiring specialist knowledge in medical terminology and patient pathway protocols.
- Understand and support the clinical and operational areas that the service interacts with.
- Apply data protection and copyright laws and manage their impact on the service.
- Understand standards of care, including the Patient Charter.
- Utilise a range of IT applications effectively.
Qualifications and Experience
- Appropriate typing/IT qualification or equivalent.
- Excellent transcription skills, able to accurately transcribe complex terminology and shorthand notes, often under frequent interruption.
- Ability to cope with the sometimes distressing and emotional nature of the work when dealing with sensitive situations involving colleagues, patients and their families.
- Judgement in dealing with patient enquiries, evaluating situations and resolving problems.
- Strong organisational skills, able to work independently and as part of a team, prioritise workloads, work under pressure, multi‑task and meet deadlines.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels: patients, relatives, colleagues and health professionals, within the trust and externally.
- Tactful and diplomatic in all interactions.
