An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as Lead Pharmacist, HIV & Sexual Health. This post is ideally suited to an experienced, motivated and forward‑thinking pharmacist who is seeking to further develop their leadership and management skills whilst continuing to advance their professional practice within the HIV and Sexual Health specialty.
As Lead Pharmacist, you will work in partnership with the Senior Lead Pharmacist and lead on defined elements of the delivery, development and transformation of HIV and Sexual Health clinical pharmacy services.
You will collaborate with leading national and world renowned clinicians locally, as well as clinical partners across North West London. You will act as a recognised expert within the specialty, supporting medicines optimisation, clinical governance and person‑centred care across complex and evolving care pathways.
The role includes responsibility for managing and supporting the development of the specialist pharmacists within the HIV and Sexual Health pharmacy team, as well as working collaboratively with third‑party outpatient pharmacy colleagues and Homecare services.
Main duties of the job
- Support the delivery of a high‑quality clinical pharmacy service to the HIV and Sexual Health specialty.
- Collaborate effectively with members of the HIV and Sexual Health MDT, the wider pharmacy team and other healthcare professionals both within and outside of the Trust, to provide person‑centred pharmaceutical care to people living with HIV, HTLV and people accessing Sexual Health services.
- Actively participate in HIV and Sexual Health MDT meetings including the HIV virtual clinic (HIV treatment and prevention), HIV MDT, Healthy Aging Clinic and HIV Inreach meeting, ensuring cost‑effective and evidence‑based use of medicines that is aligned with national guidance and commissioning policies where relevant.
- Champion medicines management within the HIV and Sexual Health department supporting CQC preparedness.
- Lead on audit, quality improvement initiatives, risk management and other elements of clinical governance within the specialty.
- Attend and deputise for the Senior Lead Pharmacist at HIV and Sexual Health service, clinical pathways and business meetings and pharmacy departmental meetings.
- Line manage and support band 7 specialist pharmacists within the HIV and Sexual Health team. Deliver and support education and training related to the HIV and Sexual Health specialty and within wider pharmacy department.

Person Specification
Education
- Master’s degree in pharmacy or equivalent
- Current registration as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Independent prescribing qualification and registration with the GPhC as an independent prescriber
- Management/leadership course(s) or qualification
- Relevant master’s degree e.g. clinical pharmacy practice
Experience
- Significant post‑registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy including experience in HIV and Sexual Health
- Experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward and dispensary services)
- Experience working within the HIV and Sexual Health MDT
- Experience in dealing with high‑cost drugs and NHSE commissioning (e.g. Blueteq)
- Experience using clinical audit and/or quality improvement to improve practice
- Experience working within HIV and Sexual Health clinics and/or pharmacist‑led clinics
- Experience developing guidelines, PGDs and SOPs
- Experience undertaking research
Skills
- Good clinical knowledge of HIV and Sexual Health
- Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and senior management
- Ability to analyse and provide valuable insight from drug usage reports
- Able to work under pressure and make clinical decisions with limited information
- Demonstrates good understanding of key NHS objectives and publications
- Ability to Microsoft Office applications at an advanced level
