Position

Carpenter & Locksmith – Full Time, 39 hours a week (Monday to Sunday)

Location: HMP Aylesbury, HP20 1EH – a Category C men’s prison.

Salary: £39,673.67 plus 5% shift allowance.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Carpenter, including Locksmith responsibilities, to join our Facilities Maintenance Team at HMP Aylesbury.

As a Carpenter & Locksmith you will work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues from plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning, administration and more, all dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment for prisoners, staff and visitors.

You will contribute to the smooth and safe operation of the prison, supporting rehabilitation and positive change.

Key responsibilities

Work on carpentry projects including maintenance, repair and installation of structural timber elements.

Operate and maintain all associated power tools and machinery.

Provide locksmith duties, such as key cutting, lock installation and maintenance.

Work within the team to deliver maintenance tasks in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.

Ensure health and safety compliance in all activities.

Qualifications and experience

  • Substantiated experience in a similar role.
  • Competency in the use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery.
  • Basic IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Up‑to‑date First Aid at Work qualification.
  • City & Guilds, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Carpentry or an equivalent qualification or substantial experience.
  • Good health and safety knowledge.
  • Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
