Responsibilities
- Set, operate, and optimise 5‑axis CNC milling machines to manufacture complex precision components
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications, including GD&T
- Produce parts to extremely tight tolerances in materials such as titanium, aluminium, stainless steel, and high‑performance alloys
- Select appropriate cutting tools, workholding, and fixtures
- Make on‑machine program edits and offset adjustments where required
- Work with CAM‑generated programs, collaborating with programmers to improve machining efficiency, quality, and cycle time
- Perform first‑off and in‑process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges)
- Ensure all machining activities comply with aerospace and defence quality standards and procedures
- Troubleshoot machining issues and support continuous process improvement
- Maintain machine performance through routine checks, maintenance, and good housekeeping
- (Senior level) Support and mentor junior machinists and operators where required
Requirements
- Strong CNC machining experience with a focus on 5‑axis milling
- Experience machining for aerospace, defence, motorsport, or similarly regulated industries
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Solid understanding of tooling, workholding, and cutting strategies
- Experience using precision inspection equipment
- Working knowledge of CNC controls such as Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high quality and delivery standards
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred
- Experience using or working alongside CAM software (e.g. Hypermill, Siemens NX)
- Experience across prototype, low‑volume, and higher‑volume precision manufacturing
- Knowledge of AS9100 or aerospace quality systems
