Job Summary
Due to a continued growth in business, we are seeking a Machinist to join the team in Western Approach. This site is an International Centre of Excellence in composite wing structure design and production, manufacturing composite wing spars and Fixed Trailing Edge assemblies for some of the world’s most popular aircrafts.
As a Machinist reporting to the Team Leader at GKN Aerospace, you will join a small team where you will work collectively to create a Great Place to Work environment through a culture of continuous improvement and a safe working ambience.
The successful applicant will work a 7‑day fortnight shift pattern (12‑hour day shifts) and receive a 28% shift allowance.
Shift pattern:Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, SundayWeek 2: Wednesday, Thursday
How You’ll Contribute
- Ensure parts are produced on a right‑first‑time basis.
- Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date.
- Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system.
- Highlight any non‑conformance to the Process Team Leader.
- Adhere to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures.
- Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974.
- Manage machine stoppages with maintenance and escalation as required.
- Complete Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM).
- Manage 5S within area (tooling, work set station and general area).
- Champion Export Control compliance activities, ensuring compliance with the site Technology Control Plan (TCP) and Export Control Regulations.
- Comply with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities.
- Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implement corrective actions.
- Keep machines tidy and maintain good housekeeping standards in designated work area.

Essential
- A recognised machining indentured apprenticeship and ideally previous manufacturing experience in a factory environment.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, a team player, possesses excellent communication skills, and can work effectively in small teams with Team Leaders.

- Starting salary of £35,930 for the first 3 months whilst obtaining A stamp; once certified you’ll be on a salary of £37,542 plus 28% shift premium (day‑shift), totalling £48,054.
