Mechanical Fitter

We are recruiting for an innovative, R&D focussed manufacturer, looking for a driven and ambitious Mechanical Fitter.

Core skills

• Excellent practical mechanical fitting skills (additional electrical skills beneficial)
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and instructions
• Ability to operate manual machine tools preferred but not mandatory
• IT skills (MS Office – Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel as a minimum)
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills

Qualifications/Experience

• BTEC Level 3 or equivalent
• Experience of prototyping
• Experience of small batch manufacturing/production environment
• Involvement in the manufacture of electrical or rotating machines is desirable
• Experience of lean manufacturing environment is desirable
• Experience of winding/impregnation/assembly of high‑strength magnets is desirable

Main Duties

• Machine builds; materials delivery to ready‑for‑test stage from engineering drawings
• Small‑batch production – builds, fitting, and assembly
• Prototype builds
• Build readiness – supporting design for manufacture, build processes, quality and safety
• Control of build quality – inspection of dimensions and characteristics
• Development and recording of manufacturing knowledge to support continuous improvement
• Support of Stores function (control of incoming materials and production orders)
• General maintenance tasks for an efficient, safe and clean workshop environment

General information

• Working hours (35 hour week): 7.30am‑4pm Monday to Thursday, 7.30am to 11.30am Friday
