Overview

As a CNC Setter Operator at Cosworth, you will be responsible for manufacturing crankshafts and camshafts as well as a variety of other engine components for super/hyper car manufacturers. In this role, you will set up and operate multiple CNC machines, read and edit programs to ensure smooth operations, and conduct quality control checks using various measurement tools. You will inspect and maintain machinery, tooling, and equipment, with the goal of ensuring all parts meet specifications and minimising production downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture camshafts and crankshafts for Automotive and Aerospace customers.
  • Set up and operate machines in a safe manner with regard to themselves and others, complying with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Produce components to the company standard in the most efficient / cost effective manner.
  • Be familiar with all systems and procedures of their job.
  • Ensure that information is transferred between shifts and team members as required.
  • If problems occur, ensure the relevant people are kept informed (e.g., Team Leader, Shift Leader, Production Engineer, Scheduler & Maintenance).
  • Be committed to continuous improvement and suggest improvements regarding methods, processes and tooling.
  • Highlight problems as soon as they occur to the Team Leader / Shift Leader.
  • Keep working area clean and tidy.
  • Work within departmental / company procedures.
  • Fulfil any other reasonable requirement consistent with departmental objectives.
  • Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
  • Support the Company’s compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 by following company policy and best practice.

Candidate Profile / Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate technical information and drawings.
  • Experience using Multi Axis Mill/Turn machines essential.
  • Experience using 4 Axis Milling Machines & 2/3 Axis Lathes.
  • Experience of Fanuc Controls
  • Ability to problem solve and see errors in NC code
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of: Work-holding methods; Tool selection criteria; Cutting tool parameters; Manual machining techniques; Quality principles; Inspection techniques.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP) & DNC Software (Seiki)
  • Knowledge of tool measuring equipment such as Zoller
  • Basic numerical and computer skills.
  • Change oriented and keen to promote forward thinking.
  • Effective communicator both verbal and written.
  • Committed and enthusiastic.
  • Automotive/Aerospace engineering experience/background.
  • Knowledge of machining engine components preferred (Heads, Blocks, Cams & Cranks, etc.)
  • Working Hours – Alternating Earlies and Lates
  • Week 1: Monday – Thursday: 06:00 to 14:00; Friday: 06:00 to 13:00
  • Week 2: Monday – Thursday: 14:00 to 22:00; Friday: 13:00 to 20:00
  • An 18.5% shift allowance is applicable for working the above shift pattern
