Job Description
Reporting to the Toolroom supervisor, the tool technician is tasked with supporting the production department daily, based in the tool room. The role involves cleaning and servicing injection moulding tools to maintain production schedules and quality.
Job Purpose
The tool technician will service and clean injection mould tools, stripping them down for cleaning, inspecting for issues, reporting problems, reassembling the tools after servicing, and returning them to the production department. Additional responsibilities may include repair, maintenance, and calibration of tools, jigs, fixtures, and instruments.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily servicing & cleaning of mould tools in the tool room or factory.
- Carry out repairs, modifications, and servicing of injection moulding tools and related tooling.
- Document service & repair work with electronic records, including photographs of issues.
- Support production by completing cleans or repairs in the factory clean room as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Assist in equipment repairs and breakdowns when required.
Experience and Qualifications
- Solid experience in mechanical assembly & disassembly and basic wiring.
- Experience with manual and CNC machine tools, including surface grinder, CNC, VMC, milling and centre lathe.
- C&G or NVQ 3 in mechanical engineering, or mechanical engineering/toolmaker apprenticeship, with or without injection moulding tool experience.
- High precision injection tooling, polishing, and finishing experience is desirable.
- Hot runner experience and multi-cavity high is advantageous.
- Ability to read and understand 2D component drawings; wiring drawings experience is advantageous.
- Core computer skills using email, Excel, and Word documents.
