The Workshop Machinist is a hands-on role within the field of mechanical engineering, working either on-site or within our workshop. The role is responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical work while ensuring full compliance with company policies on health & safety, quality assurance, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently wear and maintain appropriate PPE while on-site and in the workshop.
- Demonstrate and promote the four core values and strong safety culture.
- Receive and execute on-site assignments from Project Managers, working in line with the relevant Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Working Procedures.
- Carry out tasks only within the scope of valid certifications and approved qualifications.
- Comply with all client-specific working practices, site rules, and health & safety documentation while on-site.
- When using hazardous substances, consult the company’s COSHH data sheets to ensure safe handling and usage.
- Perform workshop-based tasks as assigned by Project Managers, following established safety procedures.
- Complete other ad hoc duties as reasonably assigned by Project Managers.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, or a related discipline
- Proven experience as a workshop machinist or mechanical fitter
- Competent in the use of lathes, milling machines, grinders, and general machining equipment
- Valid certifications for operating lifting equipment, abrasive wheels, and other relevant machinery
- Up-to-date training and certifications aligned with health and safety standards (e.g., CSCS, CCNSG, or equivalent)
Desirable:
- Experience working in industrial or heavy engineering environments
- Familiarity with CAD drawings and technical specifications
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Forklift or overhead crane certification
Vehicle requirements
Utilisation of own vehicles to travel to and from our Dover Workshop (CT17).
Tools & Equipment
Use of personal tools is required. Job-specific tools will be provided by the company and must be signed for and treated as company assets.
Working Hours & Overtime
- Standard rate: £17.77 per hour
- Overtime rates: (ONLY WHEN REQUIRED)
- Weekdays after 6:00 PM – 1.5x
- Saturdays – 1.5x all day
- Sundays – 2x all day
