We have an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s leading producers of paper that has been developing its world class production skills and technical expertise since 1930.

Their operations, both here in the UK and overseas, have built up a reputation for their brands known for printed commercial advertising across the world.

The position coincides with the development of a Food Grade Packaging Paper that is impervious to oxygen, aromas, oils and greases; the aim is to replace plastic material in food packaging. This is not only because of its inherent barrier properties, but also due to its recyclable, marine biodegradable, and compostable characteristics.

Job Role

The Quality Control (QC) Technologist will provide QC and technical services in the areas of Product Development, Quality, Process Development, Mill and Customer Support, as required to meet the objectives of the Mill and the Business.

The QC Technologist has close contact with all Mill Departments, Group and External Research & Development / Technical Facilities, Group Sales and Marketing, Customers, Internal (Group) and External Sub‑contractors and Suppliers, External Organisations and Agencies.

Working within the Technical Team, you will contribute to delivering Technical Services, Product/Process Development, Customer Technical Services and Quality Support to achieve the departmental objectives which contribute to the objectives of the mill.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or MSc in a Scientific Discipline or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Understanding of papermaking technology and ancillary processes will be of significant benefit.
  • Broad knowledge of associated technologies relating to coating, printing, formulation testing also of benefit.
  • Good understanding of Statistical Methods and Analytical Techniques.
  • Autonomy – self‑starter and able to work alone.
  • Teamwork – work as part of team with strong communication skills.
  • Communication – in writing, presenting and verbally.
  • Initiative – be able to demonstrate from experience to date.
  • Analytical – ability to analyse and present meaningful data and reports for use by others in making decisions.
  • Goal oriented, methodical and well‑organised.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • High degree of computer literacy.
