Steel Fabrication And Welding – Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions for accurate steel fabrication and welding.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and weld steel components for construction and installation projects, ensuring high standards of workmanship.
  • Use fabrication tools and welding equipment safely and effectively, including MIG, TIG, and arc welding processes.
  • Carry out quality inspections on finished products, ensuring dimensional and structural accuracy before delivery.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and handling of steel products in the workshop and yard.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Report any machinery defects, safety issues, or production concerns promptly to your Line Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Steels Department and wider branch network to meet production targets and customer requirements.

Skills, Experience, and Attributes for Steel Fabrication and Welding Roles

  • Previous experience in steel fabrication and welding is essential.
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, and arc welding, cutting and shaping steel to precise measurements.
  • Able to read and work accurately from technical drawings and schematics.
  • Comfortable with heavy manual handling and working in a busy workshop environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality control.
  • Team player, adaptable to changing workloads and able to communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Self-motivated with a positive approach to safety, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Relevant welding and fabrication qualifications are desirable but not essential for candidates with significant experience.

Working Hours And Rewarding Benefits At Lawsons

  • Full-time position, 44.5 hours per week (Monday–Friday 07:30–17:00, alternate Saturdays 08:00–12:00).
  • Salary = £40,000+ (dependent on experience and qualifications)
