About The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Finance Officer to join our Corporate Facilities Management team within the Place Directorate at Kirklees Council. This is a key role providing day‑to‑day financial support to the Senior Management Team for the overall budget, working closely with Service Accountancy to ensure accurate budget preparation, transactions, final accounts, and year‑end processes are delivered to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Management Team and Service Accountancy through monthly budget monitoring to achieve accurate and detailed budgets.
  • Liaise with other services and teams to resolve queries on charges and costs, providing clear and timely feedback.
  • Work alongside the BSO Supervisor to ensure correct year‑end closure procedures and accountancy processes are completed.
  • Identify and implement cost‑saving opportunities, such as ensuring accounts are closed promptly when assets are decommissioned and securing appropriate business rate discounts for listed or mothballed sites.
  • Ensure in‑service invoicing is up to date (where not managed via an Asset Management System).
  • Maintain and improve financial systems and processes, contributing to long‑term efficiency and savings.
  • Support team development and actively seek improvements in budget management and purchasing practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualifications: AAT qualified, graduate in a relevant discipline, willing to gain a qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Proven background in finance, management accounting, or similar roles.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Awareness of accounting principles and year‑end procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across teams.
