Job Description

We are looking for a commercially minded Assistant Accountant who is ready to own their work and help our business grow. If you enjoy solving problems at the intersection of finance and technology, this is an opportunity to make a real difference. You will be a key part of the team responsible for understanding and driving the performance of NEXT Finance. This role is about more than just numbers; it’s about using data to tell a story and provide clarity for our senior leaders. You will work in a fast‑paced environment where standing still isn’t an option, using tools like SQL and Power BI to automate reporting and deliver insights into our £180m annual profit.

What You’ll Take On

  • Drive Financial Insight: Run and evolve the financial models that underpin our balance sheet and P&L, ensuring our reporting is as efficient as possible.
  • Modernise Reporting: Use SQL and Power BI to build and maintain automated dashboards, moving away from manual processes to smarter data solutions.
  • Support Decision Making: Prepare clear KPI analysis for senior leaders, helping to inform the direction of the business.
  • Maintain Financial Rigour: Support the month‑end process, including balance sheet reconciliations and detailed analysis.
  • Future Planning: Assist with forecasting and financial appraisals for new credit projects, identifying efficiencies in debt management and supplier costs.

What you’ll bring

  • Analytical Foundation: At least 2 years of experience in a finance or analytical role and are CIMA/ACCA part‑qualified (or equivalent).
  • Technical Skill: Proficient in SQL and Power BI, with advanced Excel skills and experience building financial models.
  • Curiosity: A natural drive to get under the skin of the data to uncover what is really driving performance.
  • Clear Communication: Ability to present your analysis with conviction and work collaboratively with the wider team to drive change.
