Job Overview

Working within a small team, the Finance Assistant will assist the day‑to‑day Financial Management functions and undertake a range of tasks. The post holder will provide support to the Directorate Accountant in the delivery of financial and statutory obligations of the Trust’s Financial Management Function. They will provide financial information to clinical and non‑clinical colleagues and support the development of robust financial processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the production of the monthly financial position of the Directorates in accordance with agreed timescales and report to the Assistant Head of Finance.
  • Produce accurate financial information and reports in a timely manner, responding to queries professionally.
  • Work as part of a team to deliver financial information for the Directorates and the Directorate Accountant.
  • Maintain spreadsheets and records to assist directorate accountants in ensuring income and expenditure is recorded accurately.
  • Analyse income and expenditure, identify variances, investigate where necessary and report findings.
  • Reconcile control accounts monthly and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Administer recharges and maintain recharge budgets.
  • Assist in the annual budget setting process for directorates.
  • Have access to vulnerable people; subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment).

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths or equivalent, AAT or equivalent, high numeracy and accuracy, and the ability to work with spreadsheets to provide high‑quality financial information.
  • Demonstrable ability to work with MS Office, particularly Excel, Access and Word.
  • Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff across the department, Trust and other trusts.
  • Ability to organise own work with initiative to ensure all tasks are completed.
