Social Worker – Children’s Duty & Assessment Team – Sefton Council
Role Overview
The successful candidate will work within the Children’s Duty & Assessment service, completing statutory assessments and responding to referrals where there are concerns about a child’s welfare or safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking Section 17 Child in Need assessments
- Completing Section 47 safeguarding enquiries
- Holding a caseload of children requiring assessment and short-term intervention
- Carrying out direct work with children and families
- Managing work through a duty system and responding to incoming referrals
- Making proportionate, evidence-based decisions in line with legislation and local procedures
- Preparing clear, timely, and well-reasoned assessments and case recordings
- Attending and contributing to strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and core groups
- Working collaboratively with partner agencies including health, education, police, and early help services
- Ensuring statutory timescales and safeguarding standards are met consistently
Pay Rates
- £40.00 per hour – Umbrella
- £35.40 per hour – PAYE (inclusive)
- £31.36 per hour – PAYE (exclusive)

Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 3 years post-qualifying experience as a Children’s Social Worker
- Recent experience within a Children’s Duty & Assessment or Front Door team
- Social Work England registration
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and threshold decision-making
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑demand frontline service
- Willingness to attend the office as required under the hybrid working arrangement
